FIGURING YOUR GOWN
On your wedding day, you want to look your best. Ordinary or okay just won’t do. Different figures have different needs in order to present the best appearance. Whatever your figure type, however, there’s a beautiful wedding dress that’s just right for you.
If you’re short, shop for a dress with a vertical look. The seams and appliques should run lengthwise. Consider an empire, princess, or A-line dress. Details might include a small collar and cuffs or a trim neckline. If you’re tall, look for a dress with a more horizontal look, such as trim that wraps around the dress, wide belts, wide collars and cuffs, raglan or butterfly sleeves, a lower neckline and a flared or tiered skirt to minimize your height. If you are full figured, choose a carefully fitted princess line or loosely shaped style that just skims the body. Avoid fabrics that cling. Go for slender sleeves, a V or U-shaped neckline, a graceful skirt with fullness at the front and sides.
If you’re thick in the middle, aim for the slimming effect of a lifted bodice and an A-line skirt. Avoid thick sashes and tight waists. Broad shouldered girls look best in a dress with set-in sleeves and a low V or high covered neck. Avoid puffed or leg-‘o mutton sleeves, broad collars or halter tops.
Price is not as big a consideration as style, fit, and your personal reaction to the dress. More expensive will not necessarily improve these elements. Whatever dress you choose, make sure you feel good about it and feel good in it. You will be a lovely bride.
